Granite kitchen countertops characteristics
Granite kitchen countertops are prized because granite is one of the hardest natural surfaces used in interiors. The stone resists heat from pans, scratches from knives, and the daily wear of a working kitchen, and a polished finish seals the surface against most stains. Egyptian granite offers a wide colour range, from warm Aswan reds and pinks to silver-grey and near-black, so a countertop can be matched to almost any cabinet and splashback scheme. Each slab carries a unique grain pattern, giving every kitchen a one-of-a-kind worktop that mass-produced surfaces cannot match.
Product Information
Properties and finishes of granite kitchen countertops
Our granite kitchen countertops are cut from dense igneous stone rated roughly 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is why granite handles knives, hot cookware, and decades of use without losing its surface. The standard kitchen finish is a high-gloss polish that brings out the mineral colour and makes the worktop easy to wipe clean; honed (matte) and leathered finishes are available where a softer, less reflective look is preferred. Edges can be profiled as straight, bevelled, bullnose, or ogee to suit the kitchen design. All of our worktops are cut from genuine Egyptian granite and sealed before delivery so they arrive ready to install.

Granite kitchen countertops: frequently asked questions
Are granite countertops heat resistant? Yes. Granite forms under high heat, so you can place hot pans and trays directly on the surface without damage, though using trivets is still good practice to protect the polished finish over the long term.
Do granite worktops need sealing? Granite is very dense and we seal every worktop before delivery. Resealing once a year keeps the polished surface stain-resistant against oil, wine, and acidic foods in a working kitchen.
What thickness should a kitchen countertop be? Most kitchens use 2 cm or 3 cm granite. The 3 cm slabs give a more solid look and stronger overhangs for islands, while 2 cm is common where a thinner profile or lower weight is preferred.
