Flamed granite characteristics
Flamed granite is created by passing an intense flame across the polished stone, which causes the surface crystals to burst and flake away, leaving a rough, matte, non-reflective texture. This thermal finish lightens and softens the stone’s colour and, most importantly, creates a naturally rough surface with excellent grip when wet. Because the texture is part of the stone rather than a coating, it never wears off, making flamed granite the standard choice wherever safety underfoot and long outdoor life matter. The finish can be applied to any of our Egyptian granite colours.
Product Information
Properties and finishes of flamed granite
The granite beneath the flamed finish is rated about 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so flamed surfaces combine high slip resistance with the durability of solid granite. Flaming is the most popular outdoor finish, but the same stone is also offered polished for a glossy interior look, honed for a smooth matte surface, and bush-hammered or sandblasted for alternative textures. Flamed pieces can be edge-finished and cut to size for paving units, copings, and treads. Every flamed product is produced from genuine Egyptian granite in colour-consistent batches.
Suitability & Installation
Where to use flamed granite
Outdoor paving and walkways
Flamed granite is the go-to surface for patios, plazas, paths, and pool surrounds where slip resistance in wet conditions is essential.
Stairs and steps
The rough texture gives secure footing on external and internal staircases, treads, and ramps.
Façade cladding and kerbs
Flamed finishes give façades a matte, non-glare look and provide durable kerbstones and edging for streets and landscaping.

Flamed granite: frequently asked questions
What is flamed granite? Flamed granite is granite that has been treated with an intense flame, bursting the surface crystals to leave a rough, matte, non-slip texture. The thermal finish is part of the stone itself, so the grip and look last for the life of the surface.
Is flamed granite good for outdoor use? Yes. Flaming is designed for exteriors. The rough surface stays slip resistant when wet and the granite withstands sun, rain, and frost, making it ideal for paving, pool surrounds, steps, and façades.
Does flamed granite change the stone's colour? Yes, slightly. The heat lightens and softens the colour and removes the polished shine, giving a more muted, natural tone. The underlying granite colour still shows through in a matte form.
