What is sawn cut stone?

Sawn cut stone is the natural surface left on the stone directly after it has been cut by a saw, with no further polishing, honing or texturing applied. As the blade passes through the block, it leaves fine, parallel saw marks and a flat, matte face. This raw finish reveals the true colour and grain of the stone without any sheen.

The sawn surface is uniformly flat and slightly textured, with a subtle, fine roughness from the cutting process that gives a soft, non-reflective appearance. Because it is the most basic and economical finish, sawn cut stone keeps the material in its most natural state. It can be left as is for a raw, industrial or rustic look, or used as a base finish that may later be honed or polished. The light texture also provides modest grip, making it practical for many functional applications.
